Your manuals, spec sheets and warranties in French, technically accurate

Quebec’s Charter requires instructions, warranty certificates and any document supplied with a product to be in French. We translate and revise your technical documentation using your industry’s terminology, right in your own files.

  • Technical documentation translated and edited in the exact terminology of your industry.
  • We work in your Word, Excel or InDesign files and keep your layout.
  • A bilingual glossary of your products, reusable for future documents.

What the law requires

  • Documents supplied with a product, including instructions and warranty certificates, must be in French (Charter of the French Language, s. 51).
  • Catalogues, brochures and spec sheets offered to the public are commercial materials and must also be in French (s. 52).
  • Safety data sheets and labels for hazardous products used at work are also subject to federal rules that require both English and French.

Documents we handle

  • Installation, operating and maintenance manuals.
  • Spec sheets, quick-start guides and technical bulletins.
  • Warranty certificates, warnings and safety instructions.
  • Safety data sheets.
  • Catalogues and parts lists.

How we work

  1. File review. You send your documents in their original format. We set a fixed price based on volume, difficulty and layout work.
  2. Terminology. We build a glossary of your products before translating, so the same part has the same name everywhere.
  3. Translation and revision. Each document is translated, then revised in a full second pass.
  4. Delivery. You receive your files in French with the layout intact, along with the bilingual glossary.

Frequently asked questions

Which file formats do you work with?

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign (IDML files) and PDF. Original files let us keep your layout; a PDF alone often needs to be laid out again, which the quote will specify.

Which language pair?

English into French. A certified translation, signed and sealed by a certified translator, a member of the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec (OTTIAQ), is available when an organization requires it.

Will you sign a non-disclosure agreement?

Yes, on request, before we receive your files. Your documents are used only for your project.

How is the price set?

Based on the volume of text, its difficulty and the layout work involved. The fixed price is confirmed in writing before we start.

Which documents need to be in French?

Tell us the types of documents, their approximate page count, their format and your deadline. We’ll confirm the fixed price and turnaround.
